Good News Story: Blocked up administrative situation in the courts re-sorted after months of delay

Richard's Good News Story of the Week concerns speeding up a blocked up administrative situation.

"Mr H from Billericay got in touch with me a few months ago about a issue involving the courts which is something an MP does not get involved with; however, this time it was an administrative request to get some progress.

A couple of years ago, a (vexatious) complaint was made against Mr H’s company and, since then, he’d been waiting on the courts to provide a new hearing date. This dragged on and on, and when Mr H went to retire from the business, it was flagged up to be an issue and pausing its sale under due diligence checks.

For a very long time, Mr H has been banging his head against a wall trying to get a new hearing date from the courts so he could deal with the complaint, sell his business and move on with his life. He’d called the court time after time and sent many emails, but just got nowhere.

That’s when Mr H decided to get in touch with me to see if I could get any movement. Now, naturally, MPs do not get involved in matters for the courts, but we absolutely can give the system a prod when it feels like the admin within the system is letting everyone down..

Lo-and-behold, after contacting the appropriate court, a near hearing date was set and they began engaging with Mr H. This meant the onus was now on the complainant to share evidence and the ‘claim’ was finally withdrawn. Mr H can now proceed with the sale of the business and enjoy his life after this.

I’m delighted this has worked out for him and the next chapter of his life can begin, and I appreciate how stressful this must’ve been on him and his family. And that’s what I’m here for: to help local people in our community.

So if you need a hand, maybe to help nudge something along in the system or to help point out where something is wrong and needs rectifying, then please do get in touch with me via my website here: https://www.richardholden.org.uk/contact.

I cannot fix every problem – even though I would love to – but my team and I will always fight our hardest for you."
