Good News Story: Richard helped a small business get hundreds of thousands of pounds back in a battle with HMRC.
"I was messaged by Mr F, a business owner in my constituency, regarding an issue he was facing with HMRC and his VAT repayments over the past couple of years.
Mr F explained the nature of his business and how he submitted for his VAT repayments as usual, however HMRC decided to do a VAT Assurance check, which helps to ensure the right amount of tax is paid by businesses and VAT repayments aren't being abused, to the cost of other taxpayers.
However, in this case Mr F had done everything by the book and there was no concern and he submitted all his required documents and evidence at the end of 2024, yet received no payments for nearly 2 years, which totalled up to hundreds of thousands of pounds.
This is a completely unacceptable length of time to wait, especially for such a large sum of money which can exponentially help a business to invest and grow.
On hearing from Mr F, I immediately contacted HMRC to raise my concerns and ask for his case to finally be resolved.
I’m pleased to report that Mr F was finally paid the substantial sum for his VAT repayments, which is allowing his business to continue to flourish, however it took some time to get this full response and I sincerely hope that this is the last time he faces this problem.
I have real concerns over the length of time it’s taking HMRC to work through checks such as this as we don't know how many businesses have collapsed and how many directors of companies have been put under intolerable strain due to the pressure of such delays.
Particularly now with the amount of pressure on businesses, the last thing the economy needs is more money being withheld from them.
If you are facing an issue like this, or even something totally different, but you need some help from me to get something moving in the right direction and finally get a resolution, then please get in touch via my website here: https://www.richardholden.org.uk/contact.
