Good News Story of the Week: Broken steps fixed

Richard's Good News Story of the Week concerns repairs to a missing step.

"Normally, for my Good News Story of the Week, I write a post about what happened with a particular piece of casework from Basildon and Billericay and how, after being contacted by a constituent, I was able to help resolve the problem.

But not all casework I raise comes directly from constituents.

Sometimes, like in this instance, I notice an issue whilst I’m out and about that needs sorting, so I get on the case immediately. Sometimes it’s vandalism or just something that’s been broken and needs sorting out.

After stopping by Tasty Buds in Basildon for a quick bacon bap (with brown sauce) between busy visits, I noticed that a step was completely missing. It was dangerous to leave it like this for anyone to injure themselves on, and it just drags down the local area aesthetically.

I raised this with the Council asking them to properly replace the step, and I’m pleased to say that within a week or so they did just that.

These small wins, often where it’s something that can go unnoticed and unrepaired for a while, make a real difference. And it just takes that little bit of effort and tenacity to get them resolved.

But, I’m here for a lot more than simple repairs like this too. So, if you find yourself with an issue and you don’t know how to resolve it, or perhaps you’ve contacted the right organisation but you just need some help to nudge it through the system, please get in touch with me via my website here: https://www.richardholden.org.uk/contact.

I really am here to help, so, if you are a constituent of Basildon and Billericay, please don’t hesitate – no matter how strange the problem may be – to get in touch with me. We can’t win them all, but my team and I will do our best for you."
