The Good News Story of the Week centres on acknowledging the hard-work of a local family, who have tended to neglected land.
"Mr P from #Basildon got in touch with me regarding a neglected piece of land adjacent to his home which had been overgrown with weeds and nettles. He told me how, along with his wife, they had taken to maintaining this area themselves after Basildon Council’s grass cutters had ceased attending.
After frequent complaints to the Council and having received little to no response, Mr P asked if my team and I could step in to help. It was clear to me that both he and his wife had been ignored for years and that it was a disgraceful situation. Mr P had been having a conversation with the council since 2024. Finally, after coming to me, and then my team getting in touch with the Council, Mr P and his wife finally received an acknowledgment of their efforts and token sum of £118 from the Council by means of an apology.
This was a great win for both Mr and Mrs P, and I am glad that their hard efforts to look after the land and their local community, have been acknowledged.
