Richard's Good News Story of the Week concerns the urgent cancer referral of a local woman.
"Mrs D, from Laindon, contacted me via email to share her distressing situation where she was told to wait up to a month for her urgent referral for suspected cancer. A totally unacceptable length of time to wait for a diagnosis in urgent circumstances.
Given Mrs D was already a survivor of another rare cancer, this caused her much worry. She explained to me other details of her past and how this latest delay is affecting her day-to-day life. Naturally, I sympathised with her not knowing what is happening.
My team and I immediately contacted the Trust checking about the correct arrangements due to the nature of the circumstances. I’m glad to report that the Trust then called Mrs D to secure her an appointment that was then correctly expedited. Properly urgent referrals must be treated with the urgency required and not get lost in the bureaucracy.
