The Good News Story of the Week centres on the victim of a historic crime regaining justice.
"Ms H from Basildon dropped me a line regarding her Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) application.
Ms H explained that she had submitted the application but needed documents from Essex Police to progress it. However, the difficulty then arose as it was a historic crime and the documents were not as easy to access.
Ms H had contacted the force a few times and was provided with a timeline which, sadly, they were unable to stick to. After this, Ms H struggled to get a response and turned to me to see if I could help her.
Fortunately, this is where an MP can be really effective, as my office frequently and routinely chases updates from public bodies to find out for constituents of Basildon and Billericay what is going on and finally bring an issue to a conclusion.
Following shortly following my intervention, the police were able to provide Ms H with the information she needed to progress her application. I’m pleased she received what she needed and can bring this matter to a close.
My office and I are always here to help. Whilst we cannot solve every problem, we still give it our all and we frequently help nudge things along in the right direction too. So, if you have an issue that you’d like some assistance with, then please get in touch via my website here: https://www.richardholden.org.uk/contact
Also, as Ms H found out, if you are a victim of a violent crime, there is a government scheme where you can apply for support. Please find further details here: https://www.gov.uk/claim-compensation-criminal-injury"
