In Learning Disability Week, Richard visited Hamelin Trust in Billericay again. This time Richard heard about how their partnership with Billericay's local NHS helps get more people with learning disabilities into annual health checks.
Afterwards, Richard reflects, saying:
"Across Essex, not enough people with learning disabilities are accessing their annual health checks, meaning they’re missing out on key support available and missing out on potential issues being addressed early, saving live and NHS resources too. These checks can make such a difference to someone with learning disabilities life, and I’m so pleased that NHS Essex and Hamelin are working together to support an uptake in the annual check but also to join up services so they really fit each individual in the right way.
Of course, I’m naturally delighted that the pilot programme is being led from Basildon and Billericay and by Hamelin who do so much for people with learning disabilities, and I know they’re working with some of our fantastic local GPs too on this.
