Richard and Cllr Jeff Henry visited the Laindon Medical Group.
Speaking after the visit, Richard said:
"Alongside Cllr Jeff Henry, I recently popped popped down to Laindon Medical Centre in to meet with the fantastic team - running the show there.
I learned a lot about how the practice works and what their challenges are, alongside how much of a difference they are making to patients’ lives.
Naturally, they need more support from government to keep seeing patients and maximise their times and resources, and I’ll keep pushing in Parliament for support for our GPs and other local healthcare providers. What they don’t need from Government is extra costs, like the National Insurance Tax increase which is going to have to mean difficult staffing decisions for the practice as it’s going to means tens of thousands of pounds JF extra costs.
Primary care done right and with the right backing from government can work out cheaper for the taxpayer and keep hospital beds free for patients with a higher needs. This practice is also working on some brilliant local initiatives to tackle some of the specific issues across Basildon and Laindon.
It was also lovely to see them for the opening of their Digi-Hub too, just such a great GP surgery with a real team feeling from the GPs, Nurses, and the rest of the team!"
