Richard attends UK Parliament, Remembering the fallen.
After remembrance, Richard Mentions:
"To mark 80 years since the end of the Second World War, the Commons Speaker introduced a new ceremony to keep the memory of those who fought and died alive (>>> Details: https://www.parliament.uk/.../speaker-leads.../)
I was honoured to be asked to undertake this weekly event recently, in which and MP performs a small page turning ceremony and reads out the Kohima Epitaph on behalf of the House of Commons, on behalf of my constituents in Basildon and Billericay. I turned the page and read the tribute to Corporal R. Lanchbery of the 8th Royal Highlanders (Black Watch).
The ceremony is a powerful reminder of the courage, sacrifice and service of those who gave so much for our country and the freedoms we enjoy because of them. Taking a moment in Parliament to reflect on their stories ensures that their memory continues to live on for future generations.
We owe an enormous debt of gratitude to all those who served, and it is important that we continue to remember and recognise their contribution to our nation’s history.
Lest we forget."
