Richard Holden MP Backs British Sign Language Bill
Friday in UK Parliament means it’s Private Members Bill (PMB) day in the UK House of Commons.
PMBs are usually on a specific topic and narrow in scope to allow a specific issue to be addressed. Last year, Richard started his work campaigning to ban Hymenoplasty and so called Virginity Testing via a PMB.
Today, Richard was happy to speak in support of one that promotes British Sign Language, put forward by the MP for West Lancashire, Labour’s Rosie Copper. With the Government accepting it, it stands a good chance of becoming law itself.
He raised the point that it is especially vital that public services - especially Jobcentres and other Department for Work and Pensions - DWP support services - are available to people who are deaf and that we do all we can to help people into work who have disabilities.
There has been a huge increase of people with disabilities working in the last few years, which is a great driver for living a broad, healthy and fulfilling life. Richard is delighted to support this PMB today on your behalf in Parliament.
