After mounting pressure from the Conservatives, the Government has now U-turned on its winter fuel payment policy.

Speaker after the decision, Richard said:

"Thank you to the over 330,000 people who signed the Conservatives' petition on this.

We’ll see full details later today bu,t after taking winter fuel payments away, Rachel Reeves in now going to put them back for most pensioners.

It’s a disgrace that those on as little as £225/week had hundreds of pounds of support taken away from them over the winter.

What I’m worried about now is that the Labour Government’s reckless spending decisions in other areas - like the £30 billion for leasing back the Chagos islands which are our own territory after the disastrous deal with Mauritius - will see further tax rises like the National Insurance Tax we’ve recently seen, and business rate rises to pay for their spending review this week."
