Richard visited Tate House recently to hear about their services for young people.
Speaking after the visit, Richard said:
"Tate House run by Peabody in Laindon gives a home to 16-21 year olds, many leaving care. It’s not something most of my constituents will ever need but it it’s important that it is there and has good people leading it.
I popped by to chat to the team - who really are so friendly & have a passion for helping people. I’ll be returning soon to chat to some of the young people about my role as their MP!
It was really interesting to learn more about this specific service for young people and how they help them to get their life back on track.
For a lot of young people in care, life can be really difficult and it’s easy to take the wrong path and end up in trouble. That’s why it’s so important that housing associations like Peabody work with social services from Essex County Council to help support young people in having a stable place to live and finding work that will mean something to them.
I loved chatting to Rachel, Sarah, Mary, Aimme, Grace, Olayinka, Mike, and the other Sarah. They were so kind and friendly and I could tell immediately they have a real passion for what they do, especially when it helps turn a young person’s life around.
I’ll be sure to return soon to chat to some of the young people about my role and politics more widely, and to visit their nearby temporary accommodation service too."
