Richard Holden, MP for North West Durham, attended a World Day of Prayer event.
The World Day of Prayer is an international initiative that is celebrated annually on the first Friday of March by hundreds of countries globally. It seeks to bring together women of different cultures and traditions throughout the year and the Day of Prayer is about a celebration of this. Each year, the service focuses on a different country and a different, specific theme and people are encouraged to learn about that country, celebrate the culture and traditions of it and pray for the country. The theme this year was ‘Rise! Take Your Mat and Walk’ and the country was Zimbabwe.
Richard attended a coffee morning at St Patrick’s Church in celebration of this year’s World Day of Prayer. It was held the day after the official World Day of Prayer and was about encouraging people to come together as a community and spend time together.
Commenting, Richard said ‘It was a pleasure to visit the coffee morning at St Patrick’s Church and meet and spend time with so many of my constituents, some of whom had travelled quite a way to be at the event. It was a great way to come together as a community and I got to hear about what the World Day of Prayer means to people and why they were celebrating it. I will definitely be attending next year and hope to see lots of my constituents there. I want to thank those that spent time and effort putting on the coffee morning for their hard work – it was a really lovely event.’
