Richard Holden, Member of Parliament for North West Durham, has spoken out in the House of Commons to support a new Bill to provide more support for women through the menopause..
The Bill will introduce:
1.) Free Prescriptions for HRT
2.) Improve menopause support and services, especially in terms of: education, training of doctors and GPs, and better employment practices from employers.
All women go through the menopause and it can affect them in a multitude of ways, usually between the ages of 44-55, including: hot flushes, night sweats, vaginal dryness and discomfort during sex, difficulty sleeping, low mood or anxiety, reduced sex drive and problems with memory and concentration
Richard Holden, Member of Parliament for North West Durham, said:
“For too long the menopause, like many other issues, has not been spoken about openly and freely. This situation lets women down and needs to change.
“It’s vital that we do all we can to support women through the menopause, which can be a difficult time, and have open and honest conversations about it too.
“Employers have a particular role to help support employees and I’ve been delighted to support the Bill in Parliament so that we see both the menopause being dealt with more openly in society, so women do not feel that they are alone, and that employers can support women through it.”
