Richard Holden MP has joined with our county's other Conservative MPs, Dehenna Davison from Bishop Auckland and Paul Howell from Sedgefield, in a call to Durham Council to exclude monuments to those who fought for Britain and for freedom from the #MonumentReview that Durham Council have started.
Richard joins the two other local MPs in questioning the wisdom of diverting council resources to "review" monuments - especially given the need of councils to work with Government to get our local economy moving again.
But they recognise that this is a policy for the Labour-run local authority to justify. However, they have one simple request, following concerns being raised by local constituents and that is:
that "All monuments to those who fought for our country be excluded from the Council's review"
It really is that simple and Cllr Henig could do so today. Even if you back the Labour Council's "review" to do so to "all statues and monuments" is deeply insensitive and unnecessary.
