Richard Holden MP kicks off his #LockdownLitterpick
Litter is unacceptable at any time and during lockdown it's even more dangerous. A recent report showed that transmission of Covid-19 can occur via disgarded waste and as our local tourism sector re-opens, after been really hard hit by the lockdown, we need to help ensure our area is as beautiful as possible.
As lockdown restrictions have eased litter has become an increasing issues, particularly regarding take-away food packages, in local beauty spots and along local roads.
Earlier this year, Richard met Orinoco from the Wombles, famous for their litter collecting, in Parliament as part of the Keep Britain Tidy campaign. Now lockdown restrictions have started to ease, Richard is keen to do more litterpicks with community groups across the constituency. If you'd like Richard to come out with your community group to get rid of litter in your area, drop his team a message via the contact form on the website: www.richardholden.org.uk/contact
Richard Holden MP said:
"It is totally unacceptable that some of our most beautiful areas and paths are left strewn with rubbish and waste. Residents are absolutely fed up of seeing people just dump used food containers, cans, bottles and food wrappers wherever they are. I'll back enforcement action from the police wherever possible.
"But I want to be proactive too. This weekend my office manager Doug and I picked up a bin-bag an a half of waste in a couple of hours on the A692 between The Grove and the Genesis Way roundabout after noticing lots of litter clearly flung from car windows and left along the roadside and I want to get out and highlight this issue for other local communities too.
"More broadly, I've a clear message. Don't be a litter tosser; just take it home."
