Earlier in the year Richard was contacted by Governors at Witton-le-Wear Primary School who are concerned that the current buildings, while well maintained and in which the fantastic little school does a cracking job - just aren't the right lay-out for a school of 80+ children.
Since then, Richard has visited the school to see the situation for himself. Later in the summer he invited the Regional Schools Commissioner's team to look at it too, and I've raised the issue with Durham County Council. In Parliament this week Richard raised it at Education Questions too with the Minister for School Standards.
Richard Holden MP said:
"The Speaker kindly squeezed me in right at the end - which is why I spoke so quickly - even though I hadn't managed to get a question selected on the formal Order Paper.
"Crucially, I did get a commitment from the Minister on the floor of the House of Commons to meet me about the case of Witton-Le-Wear Primary School and my office is arranging a date for that meeting now.
"Hopefully, with a bit of continued effort, we can make the strongest possible case for what is required to ensure that the children there get the right facilities that provide the right conditions so that they can achieve their potential. I'll keep you updated."
