The Government has announced a Plan for Jobs worth £30 billion that will aid our economy as we recover from the coronavirus pandemic and ensure employment is protected. The plan gives businesses and individuals the skills and support they need, whilst boosting youth employment and ensuring the environment is being protected. You can read full details of the plan here.
Following a statement by the Chancellor, who set out the measures during his Summer Economic Update, Richard welcomed the massive cash boost as it will protect our economy and particularly praised measures that have been implemented to support employers who protect their employees, and those who hire young people to get them into the workplace. Richard spoke of the confidence it has given businesses and stated that the Government is putting jobs at the heart of the recovery. The Chancellor agreed and stated the importance of a belief in the nobility of work and said that the measures will provide everyone in North West Durham and the rest of the country with the opportunity to secure good work.
Commenting, Richard said ‘The measures implemented in the Government’s new £30 billion plan will ensure that everyone has the opportunities needed to succeed in life. Not only is the Government supporting employment, youth employment and focusing on creating jobs, but the Government is also showing that our recovery can be done in an environmentally friendly way. The measures set out will protect the economy. I am really glad that people are being supported as we start to come out of lockdown, and I will continue to work in Parliament on behalf of all my constituents in North West Durham to ensure they get the help they deserve.’
