Richard Holden, MP for North West Durham, has spoken up in the House of Commons to thank our NHS and care workers. You can watch this here.
During a debate on a petition relating to Health and Social Care, Richard spoke to thank our NHS and care workers who have continued to work so hard across North West Durham and across the United Kingdom during the coronavirus outbreak and lockdown. Richard praised the hard work that they have done to protect our communities over the last few months and mentioned the fantastic work that has been undertaken by the local NHS Trust, which has worked with major teaching hospitals and smaller community hospitals throughout the pandemic. He thanked pharmacies for the work they have been doing in getting urgent home deliveries organised for vulnerable people, which has been a real lifeline for so many people, and thanked carers who have been staying at home to care for friends and relatives. He also welcomed the news that we are seeing many more doctors and nurses in work, which you can read about here.
Richard has been working hard for the local NHS. He has spoken to GP surgeries across the constituency to ensure that they are safe and have all the PPE needed, as well as speaking to care homes in North West Durham. Richard was contacted by a few care homes who did not have adequate PPE and, within 24 hours, had resolved the issue for every single care home in order to protect those who are doing so much for others. He is also working on getting a replacement to Shotley Bridge Hospital, which he flagged to the Minister in his speech.
Commenting, Richard said ‘I really do want to thank our NHS, care workers, home carers and pharmacists for all the outstanding work they have been doing over the past few months. I know that they have been working incredibly hard to keep our communities across the constituency and across the country safe and the work they have been doing deserves recognition. I know that for so many people this has been an incredibly difficult time, but we are so lucky to have so many people that will do so much for our safety. I will continue to work with our local NHS and care providers and will be continuing all my campaigns for our local NHS to ensure that it gets the funding it deserves and that communities across North West Durham continue to have access to world-leading healthcare.’
