Richard met with a leading Malaysian political to discuss Commonwealth relations.
Speaking after the meeting, Richard said:
"It was a pleasure to welcome Senator Nur Jazlan Mohamed, Deputy President of the Senate in the Parliament of Malaysia, to Westminster.
We discussed Britain and Malaysia’s historic links and the growing economic relationship between our two countries — especially Malaysia’s business with New Holland tractors right here in Basildon. It’s fantastic to see our local manufacturing making a global impact, supporting skilled jobs, and driving innovation from Essex to Southeast Asia.
Basildon has a proud industrial heritage and a strong future. I’ll continue working to champion British manufacturing and open new doors for local businesses abroad, especially with our Commonwealth allies.
It is vital that, in these faster growing parts of the world economy like Malaysia in which the West is in competition with China and Russia for influence, are recognised as important partners. I will keep pressing our Government to ensure that is the case."
