Richard met the Squirrels at 9th Basildon Scouts recently.
Speaking after the visit, Richard said:
"I had a really lovely time visit 9th Basildon Scouts but this time to see their Squirrel troop for little ones aged 4-6 years old, one of the first to be established in the country 5 years ago.
I’ve been visiting a lot of different voluntary organisations and The Scouts has a special place in my heart from my own time as a cub, beaver, and scout, and my father’s time as a troop leader. This is the first time I’ve ever met the Squirrels though, and it’s great to get the youngest involved in team activities!
The kids enjoyed it so much and it’s another great way to encourage children into the full scouting pathway. It’s also a great way to make friends outside of school, and many young people can make a friend for life this way.
Under Karen’s leadership, the numbers have grown amazingly and they’re doing better than ever. If you want to get your children involved, then head to https://www.scouts.org.uk/ and find the right troop for your child’s age and where you’re based.
A real big thank you to Karen and all the leaders I met - including so many young people now volunteering to help out who went through scouts themselves. This community spirited voluterrring is inspirational."
