Richard recently met with the team at Ford in Dunton again.
Speaking after the meeting, Richard said:
“It always feels like someone in Basildon worked or knows someone who worked at Ford at some point. We’re very lucky in Basildon and Billericay to have Ford UK still based in Dunton, providing local jobs a remaining a key part of the community.
What does work nicely is that, whilst I am their local MP, I’m also the Shadow Transport Secretary, so I can speak to them on a whole range of topics affecting their business and trade. Naturally, I won’t divulge any of the conversations had, but I do maintain a great relationship with them, and they are very committed to their local operations, and it was nice to meet their UK & Ireland Chief Executive again recently.
I’m doing what I can in Parliament to ensure sensible policies are introduced and to scrutinise the Government when they do another silly thing without thinking of the consequences. We need to back businesses, from some of my favourite small coffee shops locally to huge employers like Ford, as its businesses and the jobs they provide that are the backbone of our economy and the tax revenues that fund all our public services.
I look forward to another great year working with Ford for the betterment of us locally and the UK!”
