Richard Holden, MP for North West Durham, visited Romag in Consett. Romag are a security glass and glazing specialists company who work closely with rail, security and defence industries across the UK. They started out manufacturing safety goggles for RAF pilots in World War Two, and, in 2018, celebrated their 75th anniversary as a successful business. They now employ over a hundred people locally and their factory has 125,000 square feet of manufacturing space, enabling them to test and manufacture all their products onsite. All their products have to adhere to strict safety standards and they are constantly upgrading their systems and technology to remain a global leader in what they do.
Richard was shown around the facilities and met with senior management, including Managing Director Harry Moore and Technical and QA Director Kevin Webster, and a number of employees. Romag are currently working on building windows for new trains – they are able to manufacture external glass and windscreens, interior glazing, bodyside windows and internal glass for doors and partitions.
Commenting on the visit, Richard said ‘I was delighted to visit Romag and see the great work that they’re doing, both locally and nationally. Their technology is second to none and it was really interesting to see both the manufacturing and the testing sides of the factory. They’re a major employer locally and it was good to chat with both senior management and employees. I look forward to visiting them again and hope to work with them in the future.’
