Wow! What a great few months of agricultural shows and county fairs here in North West Durham. The fairs season is always one of my favourite things about summer here. Nowhere else in the UK does it quite like we do here.
From the very small like Hunwick, to the unique like Eastgate Sheep show, to the bigger ones like Blanchland and Hunstanworth, Stanhope and Wolsingham they each have their own special charm. However, what ties all of them together is the strong community spirit on show, as well as the drystone wallers who seem to be absolutely everywhere.
It was great seeing the wide variety of foals, feathers, fur, farmers, farriers and more on show, as well as being seen by friendly local constituents. There’s something at each one for everyone. You can really tell all ages are having a nice time just by the smiles on faces as you walk around. It’s a shame I will have to wait till next year to do it all over again! Can’t wait.
