To mark British Science week, Richard chatted to Durham Uni student Rob Ives who is a finalist in the ‘STEM for Britain competition, in Parliament.
Britain must cement its status as a global science and technology superpower. Doing so will create the high-paid jobs of the future, improve peoples’ quality of lives and turbocharge innovation right across the country.
In addition to world beating manufacturing in the North East, we also have some fantastic scientific research going on. It is particularly exciting to meet the bright young minds from the North East that are at the cutting edge of this.

"I want to see our area benefit as much as possible from the research of world leading universities on our doorstep - Durham, Newcastle and Northumbria. On top of this, I will be fighting for a new investment zone for the North East to make the most of the fantastic research and scientific advances in our area."
