Today is County Durham Day, celebrated each 20th March – the date of Saint Cuthbert’s death
From the Norman Conquest to the Tudor Reformation, the English Civil Wars to the restoration of the monarchy, and from the establishment of a world-class university to the brave Durham Light Infantry which was awarded battle honours in two world wars and beyond, County Durham has been at the heart of local and national history.
Commenting, Richard Holden MP said:
"Durham has a rich and proud history which I want to celebrate. I want to see Durham continue to thrive now and in the annals of history yet to be written."
