Richard Holden, MP for North West Durham, visited Elddis Transport’s head office in Consett where he was hosted by Managing Director Nigel Cook.
Founded in 1971, Elddis Transport is now one of the largest family-owned haulage and logistics providers in the UK, distributing goods across the country. They have 150 vehicles and nearly 300 trailers across seven operational sites in the North East, Worksop and Middleton and have hundreds of employees at each of these sites.
Richard was shown around the Consett site and spoke with Nigel Cook about the work Elddis Transport is doing in both the local area and nationally, what Richard is doing for employment in North West Durham and how Elddis Transport have grown and changed over the years.
Commenting, Richard stated ‘It was really great to visit Elddis Transport and to have the chance to meet Nigel, who is the fourth generation in his family to run the business. They employ hundreds of people in North West Durham and in the North East more generally, and it’s brilliant to have such a great business based right here in Consett. Nigel really knows what he is doing and is passionate about the local area – the work he is doing is really outstanding and so beneficial to people across North West Durham in terms of employment opportunities. I hope to visit again in the future and wish Nigel and his team all the very best.’
