There is one issue that people mention to me in every single town and village in North West Durham: speeding. It is both dangerous and anti-social, and a huge issue on our country roads as well as in the more built up areas.
In my summer surgery tour at Fir Tree, residents collectively raised speeding on the A68. All the local boy racers see is a nice long back straight. Even while I was standing at the meeting, someone was doing what looked (and sounded) like close to 100mph down the road.
Clearly, it is an issue that needs addressing. I got in touch with Durham County Council to voice residents’ concerns. Unsurprisingly, they saw things from our point of view.
As a result of pressure & great work from Crook Conservative Councillors too, the Council are putting in traffic calming measures like 40mph ‘buffer zones’ on the approach from Harperley - and a hard stand area for Police vehicles.
I am delighted with this outcome and look forward to the difference it will make! If you have similar concerns, please get in touch and I will make sure your voice is heard.
