Richard Holden MP has an important update on the new Community Hospital that is to replace Shotley Bridge.
"It was good to meet the new Health Minister Lord Markham CBE about our new community hospital for Consett.
"He was well briefed on the proposal and of my extensive campaigning to get it underway as soon as we possibly can. I am glad that we are both on the same page about doubling the existing facility’s capacity from 8 to 16 beds. The final approval of the business case will happen early in the new year with next steps happening soon after.
"In the meeting, I raised concerns about rising costs and whether there’s any way we can speed up delivery. I look forward to a continued dialogue with him about this crucial project in the coming weeks and months.
"Prior to my election, Shotley Bridge was mentioned just twice in 10 years in Parliament. Since I was elected, it is well over 30 and counting. I am determined to improve our local services by directing Government time, money and attention to North West Durham, which has historically been passed by.
"The project in is central to my mission as your local MP and am fully driven to see it through to completion!"
