Mrs Sarah Kitching invited Richard Holden MP to Wolsingham Primary School to meet the brilliant staff and schoolchildren there.
School is an absolutely critical part of all of our formative years, so it is so important that every schoolchild has the opportunity to succeed. It is brilliant to see so many committed teachers and staff determined to make sure children are supported as much as possible.
Wolsingham is the gateway to the dales, which the school really makes the most of. Not every child around the country is so lucky with their local geography. Having the countryside right on the school’s doorstep must be amazing for the kids there.
Richard has now visited over half of North West Durham’s schools, and at each one Richard hosts a Q&A with the school kids. Not only does it help the kids put a face to the job title, and perhaps inspire them to become an MP one day, but it is a vital element of democratic participation. At a fraught time for democracy globally, the kids did not miss their chance to make the most of the opportunity and grill their local MP.
Commenting, Richard Holden MP said:
“Mrs Kitching and all of the teachers at the school have done so well to create a truly caring environment where everyone is happy, safe and secure. Anyone would be lucky to send their kids here!
“I always come away from visiting our local schools so energised. Not only is the dedication of the staff inspiring, but also the kids’ energy is so infectious! Both are consistent features whichever school I visit, which makes me feel so optimistic for the future.
“I had a wonderful time taking a look around and chatting to the bright children at the school. Thank you so much to Mrs Kitching for inviting me, even if it meant I had to face some intense quizzing from the schoolchildren about every issue, from local grit bins and roads right the way to geopolitics!”
