This is national walking month.
Like a lot of people, Richard walked to school with my brothers and friends and it is one of the easiest ways to improve our health and stay connected to our community. Swapping a short drive for a short walk, means you can also help reduce air pollution, congestion and road dangers.
Commenting, Richard said:
"I know that a car or a van is often important for longer journeys in North West Durham but for shorter journeys, walking or wheeling - especially now the weather’s getting a bit warmer - is a really good alternative. Why don’t you call up a friend, family or loved one you haven’t seen for a while and go for a walk through one of North West Durham’s spectacular country walks or picturesque villages - or for shorter journeys in our area.
"Whenever I can find the time, I love going walking with friends and family and North West Durham is so beautiful and the countryside is really on your doorstep in so much of our area we don't have an excuse"
