After the devastating Storm Arwen last year, Northern Powergrid issued £7.5m in grants of £1-£20,000 for community hubs to become resilient to future extreme weather events.
Despite the disastrous impact of the storm, with many left without power, electricity and heating for days on end, it’s good to see some silver linings. It was great to be in Eastgate and Westgate in Weardale to present their cheques which will pay for the villages to be resilient to future extreme weather resilience.
After heavy campaigning, there have been so many success stories across North West Durham, this is the latest for Weardale. The money will be put to good use, revamping the village halls for people to use in future cold snaps.
