Derwentside College has been awarded £1.2 million extra from the Government to deliver more T-Levels from September 2024! On of just 83 providers across the country to benefits from this major funding announcement.
They're a leading local provider of apprenticeships and vocational training in the North East and it's where I have hosted several well-attended jobs and apprenticeships fairs. There is huge demand for apprenticeships in the area, and Derwentside College does a fantastic job drumming this up even more.
Getting local young people into good, high-wage, high-skill, long-term jobs is my top priority as the local MP. There is no better way to do this than through successful vocational and apprenticeships programmes so I’m delighted with this vote of confidence from the Government which will help Derwentside deliver exactly that.
Principal and Chief Executive of Derwentside College, Chris Todd, expressed his excitement about the transformative impact of the T-Level Capital Fund on the college's facilities and the opportunities it will create for students. He said:
"This significant investment reaffirms our commitment to providing exceptional learning experiences and preparing our students for the future workforce. The improved facilities will enable us to deliver cutting-edge education, combining classroom theory with practical application, ensuring our learners are ready to thrive in their chosen industries."
Vice-Principal Susan Errington said:
“I warmly welcome this £1.2 million investment for delivering T-Levels from September 2024. It will help us do even more for our students in a wide range of subjects.
“T-Levels have the potential to be transformational for a generation of students, and the UK’s long-term economic prospects. This is the kind of long-term funding we need if T-Levels are to work for the young people taking them.
“Thanks to Richard for being so active and helping us drum up support for apprenticeships nationally as well as locally. More importantly, thanks to the Government for the huge vote of confidence in Derwentside College. I look forward to the positive impact this money will provide.”
