Richard Holden, MP for North West Durham, attended the beer festival at the Grey Horse, Consett.
The Grey Hose is the oldest pub in Consett and one of the oldest pubs in the entire region – it was established over 150 years ago. They have their own brewery, the Consett Ale Works, which is located in a stable block just behind the Grey Horse. The pub has four regular cask ales, including Consett Red Dust and Consett Steel Town Bitter, and has regular changing beers. The pub hosts two festivals a year to celebrate the local area and its industrial heritage, and the festival has countless beers for people to try, as well as live music, food and a charity raffle. Richard had the opportunity to pull (and drink) the first pint to open the festival.
Commenting, Richard said ‘It was such an honour to pull the first pint at the festival. The Grey Horse is a genuinely brilliant pub and I spent a lot of time here in the election campaign, chatting to locals and getting to know the owners. The festival is a great way to experience the best that North West Durham has to offer, as well as learning about the heritage and history of the constituency. I really, really encourage everyone to visit the pub and try their selection of beers – you won’t be disappointed!’
