Richard Holden, MP for North West Durham, welcomes the news that a North West Durham college will receive funding to improve its buildings.
Earlier this year, the Government announced that £560 million of additional funding would be made available this year to maintain and improve the condition of school buildings across the country under the Condition Improvement Fund (CIF) 2020-21, in addition to the £1.45 billion that has already been provided for school maintenance. In the 2020-21 bidding round, a total of £615 million has already been awarded in a move that has benefitted 1790 schools and colleges. You can read further details about the CIF here.
It has now been confirmed that St Bede’s Catholic Comprehensive School and Sixth Form College in Lanchester will receive funding from the CIF. The funding will go towards improving the building, ensuring it is safe and in good working order. The Department for Education has revealed that the fund was heavily oversubscribed and only projects that demonstrated a high need and aligned with CIF priorities have been funded.
Commenting, Richard said ‘I am simply delighted that St Bede’s will be receiving funding from the CIF. It’s a brilliant scheme and has already helped nearly 2000 schools across the country. The funding will enable St Bede’s to improve and maintain its facilities, meaning that both students and those that work there will have brilliant new facilities that are safe and a good working environment.’
