If you've driven down the A68 you've probably noticed the sign, between Fir Tree and the Harperley Roundabout. But what you might not know is what the College of Policing do. Richard was delighted to be invited down by their head, Andy Marsh recently.
The College of Policing provide advanced training and top level residential courses for officers right up to the most senior level. Andy Marsh who heads it up was the Chief Constable of two police forces before taking up his role running the college of policing and Harperley is one of the main national sites.
The demands of modern policing are constantly evolving, which is why the work going on at this cutting edge centre has become all the more important - and it's brilliant that it's in our area.
On a local level, three times a year young @DurhamConstabulary officers also use the site for their residential training courses too. I am determined to fulfil the 2019 election promise to recruit 20,000 more police officers. We have been smashing this already with 16,700 additional police officers across the country since April 2020 – and well on the way to 20,000 and ahead of schedule. And there are jobs in the police force locally available today so if you want a fulfilling, stable and exciting career, the police should be near the top of your list.
