Scores recently attended Richard’s latest Pensioners’ fair, this time in Stanhope, Weardale.
With the free tea and coffee flowing, the whole room of pensioners was abuzz. This is Richard’s third pensioners’ fair, in which a huge range of local charities, leisure groups and organisations gathered to provide pensioners information to help live a comfortable retirement. With almost 20 groups there from Barclays Bank to County Durham Fire and Rescue Service to Durham Wildlife Trust, there was something there for everyone.
Before Richard held his pensioners’ fairs, people did not even know what they were missing out on. So many came away from the fair feeling enlightened with potentially life-changing information. Weardale by its very nature can be very isolating, particularly when it becomes more difficult to get about as you get older so this pensioners’ fair was particularly important.
In addition to the helpful information readily available, it was a social occasion too. Pensioners were chatting, socialising and even making new friends over warm cups of tea and coffee.
Commenting, Richard Holden MP said:
“With a little extra help, people can live a comfortable retirement, so I’m glad that the room was packed throughout. As with my previous two fairs, there was so much good information available. There was something there for all pensioners young and old. I’m just sad for those that missed out on this one. It was fantastic.
“Thank you very much to all those who had their stalls and helped organise this fantastic occasion. Thank you also to St Thomas Church Hall for letting us book the hall, and for providing the free tea and coffee. Mainly though, thanks to every single one of you who attended, without you it would just not have been possible.”
