Richard Holden, MP for North West Durham, visited the jobcentres in Crook and Consett to meet staff and find out more about the work they’re doing.
Richard first visited the jobcentre in Consett, where he met with staff to find out more about the work they do, the issues they face and how they help people, especially vulnerable people, get back into the workplace. The jobcentre helps people who are struggling to find employment get back into work, and also provides advice and help for people seeking financial assistance as they look for employment or if they are going through a difficult period. The jobcentre in Consett works with the local community to ensure people are given the help they need. Richard had a look round the jobcentre and spoke to staff about the work that they’re doing and the issues that affect the community, particularly the issues that prevent people finding employment.
Richard then visited the jobcentre based in Crook where, again, he met with staff to hear about the work they do and had a look round. The Crook jobcentre helps those in the local area to find employment and access financial assistance and staff working there do a lot of work with the local community, working with businesses and individuals to help those seeking employment to find it.
Richard commented ‘It was really good to visit the jobcentres in Crook and Consett and was particularly useful to find out about the different issues that can affect constituents when they are seeking employment or face unemployment. It was really good to hear about what staff at the jobcentres can do to help the local community, whether it is assisting people accessing the financial assistance they need or helping those struggling to find work. I will be doing a lot of work over the next few years to ensure that North West Durham gets the investment it deserves – driving the local economy is so important and I am looking forward to working with jobcentres and local businesses across the constituency to allow all my constituents access to good and well-paid jobs, as well as making sure those who are unable to work can continue to access needed financial help. I want to thank all those who work in the jobcentres for supporting constituents when they need it and for helping the local community.’
