As we all know, Russia has launched a merciless invasion on land, sea and air against Ukraine. As well as attacking democracy itself, Putin has weaponised energy prices, hitting us all where it hurts. Thankfully, the UK has led our international partners, standing shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine. We should continue to do so until the conflict with Russia ends.
Not only have we provided lethal aid, but hundreds of thousands of Britons have yet again demonstrated our characteristic generosity: opening up their hearts and homes to Ukrainian refugees.
As Transport Minister, I have been doing my part to help Ukrainians over here. I have extended the period the time during which the holder of a Ukrainian driving licence is able to drive cars in Great Britain from 12 to 36 months. This matches the current extended visa. I know it is only a little thing, but it will help Ukrainians be more independent, in doing so helping their hosts.
