Visits to Peases West, Parkside, Villa Real & Stanhope Barrington as part of UK Parliament Week in local North West Durham Schools
Today marks the end of UK Parliament week! This is an annual event aimed at spreading the word about what Parliament is, what it does and how you can get involved. To celebrate it I went around to Peases West, Villa Real, Parkside Academy and Stanhope Barrington Primary explaining how our Parliament works and why it’s important. I even managed to get a full demonstration of legislation going through the House of Lords and Commons going at Stanhope!
It is great to go around such a variety of places and see so many constituents. I love seeing different parts of North West Durham. What’s amazing is to see the strong community spirit everywhere that is so present in North West Durham. We shouldn’t take it for granted.
It is such an important part of our democracy for your MP to be visible and for people to feel connected to their elected representatives. While we can all disagree about a lot, what we can agree on is the importance of a healthy democracy. With democracy feeling fragile globally, UK Parliament week is becoming more and more important.
If you want me to pay your school a visit, please get in touch and we can get something in the diary!
