Richard Holden welcomes that the Department for Transport is beginning roadside trials of noise camera technology, and will apply for areas in North West Durham to be a part of these. Noise pollution from illegally modified vehicles is a source of great distress for many communities across the country and can have serious impacts on health, and that is why these trials are so important.
The Department’s first trials of noise cameras in 2019 sparked the development of new technology, both in the UK and beyond. However, there was further technical work to be done. This new second phase of trials will be to assess whether the latest noise cameras can be used as an effective tool for future enforcement.
Commenting on the trials, Richard Holden said:
“Roadside noise can be a major issue for people and I’m delighted that the Government are now piloting new technology to look at issues relating to road noise.
“Lots of constituents have been reaching out to me on this issue and if constituents would be interested in their area taking part in these important trials, please email me at richard.holden.mp@parliament.uk
“It’s vital that we help build the evidence for these new monitors to help fight egregious noise pollution and stand up for local community interests.”
