Richard Holden, MP for North West Durham, has thanked the police for their assistance in a case.
Residents at Delves Lane got in touch with Richard to raise their concerns about a car that had been abandoned at the top of the street. The car had been dumped on Delves Lane for almost six weeks and vans were finding it difficult to drive around the vehicle due to where it had been left, with residents describing the location of the car as ‘dangerous’. The car had not been taxed since December 2018.
Residents of Delves Lane contacted both Durham County Council and the local police to see what could be done about moving the car and representatives from both DCC and the police visited Delves Lane to speak with residents about the issue. The insurance and ownership records of the car were checked and a representative from DCC informed residents that the owner of the car would be contacted to inform them the car needed moving, but residents were concerned that the car remained on the street for weeks after the owner of the car was spoken to.
Residents of Delves Lane then contacted Richard to ask that he help them to resolve their issue and, once Richard had spoken to the police, the car was moved in a matter of hours. Police revisited the area and spoke with residents to confirm that the issue had been resolved and have told Richard and his team that they will continue to work with the residents if there are any further issues going forward.
Commenting, Richard said ‘I am delighted that my office was able to step in and help out and I want to thank my team for their work in getting this case resolved. I also really want to thank the police for their work on this case – these things can be a lot more complicated than they appear, but residents were rightfully concerned about the abandoned car causing danger for drivers. The team at Durham Police are brilliant and really do so much for the local area and to protect our communities.’
